Some trees are just too good to leave unfinished. This big evergreen had great presence on its own, but the base was rough - overgrown brush, uneven ground, and nothing to frame it. It needed something that matched its character.
We built a circular stone retaining wall around the entire base using natural fieldstone boulders. The wall creates a raised bed that defines the space cleanly and gives the tree a finished, intentional look. It's the kind of feature that ties a yard together without trying too hard.
This is one of those jobs where the material does a lot of the work - but only if you place it right. Fieldstone has weight and personality, so every piece has to be set with intention. We fit the stones tight, kept the wall level and consistent all the way around, and made sure the whole thing would hold up long-term.
Beyond the looks, there's real function here too. The wall holds the bed soil in place, keeps mulch from washing out, and protects the root zone. It's a feature that works as hard as it looks good.
If you've got a tree, a slope, or a bed that needs some structure, a stone retaining wall is one of the best investments you can make in your landscape. It handles erosion, defines your space, and adds lasting curb appeal - all at once.
