Some of the most important work on a job happens before the first stone ever gets set. Right now we're out sourcing boulders for an upcoming wall build - hunting down material that has the right shape, size, and density to create something that looks like it belongs there and holds up for decades.
Here's the thing about natural boulder walls - not just any rock will do. Each stone has to carry weight, fit against its neighbors, and resist the pressure of the soil behind it. That means we're selective. We don't just grab whatever is closest. We're looking at how each boulder sits, how it'll stack, and whether it has the character to look natural once it's locked into place.
This kind of sourcing work is something a lot of people never see. It's physically demanding, it takes the right equipment to move material this heavy safely, and it takes a trained eye to know what's worth loading and what gets left behind. Our skid steer grapple makes it possible to handle boulders that would otherwise require a much bigger crew and a lot more time.
The prep work is what separates a wall that looks thrown together from one that looks intentional. Good material selection upfront means less adjustment on install day and a finished product that genuinely holds. We take that part seriously - because the wall you end up with is only as good as what went into it.
